Weekly Experts Panel: Solzhenitsyn’s Legacy
Two weeks ago, the great Russian writer and thinker Alexander Solzhenitsyn passed away, leaving behind a complicated political and intellectual legacy for Russia and for the rest of the world. Despite having trenchantly opposed communism, Solzhenitsyn was no great admirer of Western capitalist ideals, but presupposed an alternative, utterly unique way for Russia’s development. What lessons could and should Russia draw from his works and his life? What impact will Solzhenitsyn’s legacy hold for Russia’s foreign policy, particularly for Russia’s relations with the West?
